Talks: AI + Biology for Sustainable Chemicals

SilicoLife is a biotech company operating at the interface of biology and computation. In the 5th Talks, a brief introduction to SilicoLife’s approach will be presented as well as details about SilicoLife’s experience as the promoters and managers of a very ambitious synthetic biology project - ShikiFactory100 - where AI, retrosynthesis and rapid prototyping join forces to produce +100 molecules of the shikimate pathway.

SilicoLife was founded in 2010 and designs optimized microorganisms and novel pathways for industrial biotechnology applications. Based on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology approaches shortens the development time and costs of new highly effective processes for the production of specific target compounds such as chemicals, food ingredients or biopolymers.

ShikiFactory100 is a project that aims to produce a universe of more than 100 high value compounds from the shikimate pathway, a hub in cell metabolism. This will be achieved through the development of optimised shikimate chassis (based in 3 sub-hubs: Phe, Trp and Tyr), and the implementation of novel biosynthetic routes for the production of existing and newly designed compounds.
